In the 1980’s, Botox was introduced to the general population as a modern injectable facial-treatment. It is purified protein that is injected into a targeted area of the face to alleviate wrinkles. It is one of the most popular short-term methods for treating wrinkles. It is also known to improve eye coordination, treat severe armpit perspiration, and alleviate migraines.
Nerve cells beneath the skin release a chemical called acetylcholine, which causes the formation of facial wrinkles. The release of acetylcholine causes muscles to contract, folding layers of skin, thus forming lines. Botox disrupts the releases of acetylcholine, temporarily preventing wrinkles from forming. The forehead, brow, and wrinkled areas on the side of a patien’s eyes (also known as crow’s feet) are the most frequent areas of the face where Botox is injected.
Botox alleviates close to 80% of wrinkles for between three to four months. It is a short-term treatment that requires multiple visits, depending on what the patient is attempting to achieve.
Patients can expect a straightforward process when opting for Botox. It can be administered during a routine appointment, with all discomfort being mitigated thanks to a numbing cream. Each individual treatment session takes 20 minutes on average.
Patients often come in with concerns regarding the effectiveness and safety of Botox. It is important to remember that it is an injectable that is specially designed to target the exact muscles causing wrinkling.
Dr. Egozi is qualified and trained in administering Botox. He takes great care to ensure that the muscles causing wrinkling are the ones that are treated. All injectable treatments should be done in a setting created and overseen by a trained medical professional.

Before treatment can take place, a consultation appointment must be scheduled. During this meeting, Dr. Egozi will perform an evaluation, allowing him to identify the muscle culprits. Injectables- Radiesse, Restylane, and Juvederm: Three Alternatives to Consider
At one time, there weren’t many options when it came to the treatment of minor wrinkles or fine lines. Today, however, three injectables, namely Juvederm® Restylane®, and Radiesse® have come onto the market with non-surgical and non-biological treatment options that most candidates should consider as a viable option.
Juvederm is an injectable treatment used to fill out fine to deep wrinkles, and to ultimately create a fuller, youthful appearance. It consists of gel filler, which has been shown to be safe, and effective for about 9 months at a time. Juvederm is actually injected into the middle to deep subsurface skin layers. The appearance of wrinkles disappears as the area of skin is plumped out and up. This produces an extremely natural and youthful appearance sought by both men and women.
Another option that is becoming more popular today is that of Restylane ®. It was created specifically to be compatible with your body’s chemistry, so the chances of adverse reactions are minimal at best. Like Juvederm, this injectable is placed in the sub-dermal region, and the results can last up to six months or more.
Another option is Radiesse ®. This product works a little differently to get the same basic effects. In this case, a Radiesse ® injection works below the surface to actually create a new framework or scaffolding to support the skin. In addition to adding volume, this injectable also helps to stimulate the production of collagen, giving your face a fuller, more vibrant appearance. Radiesse ® also lasts about 1 to 2 years and is a bit firmer than either Restylane ® or Juvederm®. Therefore, it may not be the best choice for every patient. As a plastic surgeon specializing in facial aesthetics I can help you choose the best treatment to suit your needs.
If you are considering using one of these three injectables, it is important to consult with your doctor, before, during, and certainly after the procedure. I invite you to call my office and make an appointment today. I am confident you will find your experience at my office a pleasant and valuable one.
