Injectables – Radiesse, Restylane & Juvederm: 3 Alternatives

Injectables are a common form of facial treatment that both men and women seek. There was a time where Botox was essentially the only option available for patients looking to treat facial wrinkles and lines. However, times have changed, and patients can now choose between three injectable treatments, Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Radiesse®.

All three facial injections are viable options for patients looking for non-surgical and non-biological ways to treat wrinkles and facial lines.

Juvederm creates a youthful appearance by acting as a filler, smoothing out the patient’s skin, and removing wrinkles. Its best use is when treating deep wrinkles. Juvederm is, at its essence, a gel and is effective for up to 9 months after treatment. It is injected directly into the middle of skin layers located deep under the skin’s subsurface. Wrinkles disappear as the gel fills the skin, causing it to tighten. Juvederm has been rigorously tested to ensure it’s safe and is appropriate for use by both men and women.

Restylane is slowly becoming a more popular injectable facial-treatment option. It is specially designed to be compatible with the body’s chemistry so that any hostile and unwanted reaction is mitigated or entirely avoided. Similar to Juvederm, Restylane is injected into the middle of skin layers located deep under the skin’s subsurface. It achieves results for up to six months, although some patients have observed its results for longer.

Radiesse is the third option available to patients seeking injectable facial-treatment. It gets the same results as Juvederm and Restylane. However, the methods in which those results are achieved differ slightly. Instead of acting as a filler, Radiesse creates an entirely new base in the skins subsurface, ultimately serving as support for the skin. This technique adds volume to the skin and encourages collagen production, resulting in a natural and youthful appearance. Radiesse’s effects can be observed from between one to two years, making it a long-term option compared to Juvederm and Restylane.

Before receiving any facial treatment injections, it is important that patients consult their doctor and schedule a consultation appointment with Dr. Egozi. Not every patient is a suitable candidate for injections for health reasons. It is important that Dr. Egozi evaluates each patient before treatment so as to recommend the most appropriate type of injection.
