Rhinoplasty is a very common surgical procedure capable of improving and enhancing the proportionality or general appearance of your nose. A rhinoplasty procedure can correct asymmetries, alter the width of your nose, or even change its shape. Many people also seek out rhinoplasty as a type of reconstructive surgery in order to treat an injury, correct a birth defect, or repair a deviated septum that may be causing breathing difficulties.

No matter what your personal reasons are for choosing to undergo a rhinoplasty procedure, it’s crucial to have a strong understanding of what a successful recovery process looks like. Post rhinoplasty, your nose will need ample time to heal optimally. First, you must follow all of Dr. Egozi’s instructions after your Tampa rhinoplasty surgery in order to ensure your safety and the best possible outcome. Additionally, however, possessing further knowledge of what to do and what not to do post rhinoplasty procedure can play an essential role in your recovery. Although simple care and attention not to traumatize the nose is all that is required, here is a list of 10 helpful dos and don’ts that will help ensure you come out of it all looking and feeling your best!

DO

  1. Try to keep a cold washcloth or gauze over your eyes and upper cheeks as often as possible for the first 36 hours post-surgery.
  2. Drink plenty of fluids to stay well hydrated. Your throat will likely be dry.
  3. Keep your mouth open if you have to sneeze to lessen the impact on your nasal area.
  4. Use a humidifier to keep your environment humid and ease your breathing.
  5. Try to avoid moving your upper lip too much in the week following your rhinoplasty surgery.
  6. Exercise caution around boisterous children or partners who toss and turn in bed. Getting accidentally hit in the nose could be detrimental.
  7. Use hydrogen peroxide and cotton swabs to gently clean your nostrils and any visible stitches.
  8. Try Tylenol if you need a pain reliever, but avoid aspirin-based medications. Alternatively, use the prescription pain medication given to you by Dr. Egozi.
  9. Relax as much as possible.
  10.  Avoid spicy foods.

Don’ts

  1. Don’t be very talkative, extra smiley, or brush your teeth too hard.
  2. Don’t eat anything hard to chew, or that might upset your digestion.
  3. Don’t wear your glasses for 6 weeks post-surgery as they can interfere with the healing of your nasal bones. Opt instead for contact lenses if at all possible.
  4. Don’t engage in strenuous exercises or lift anything heavier than a bag of groceries for a while.
  5. Don’t sniff or blow your nose for about 10 days post rhinoplasty surgery. This can cause discomfort and/or irritation.
  6. Don’t use nose drops.
  7. Don’t enter a hot tub or swimming pool for 3 weeks.
  8. Don’t drive for a week or so.
  9. Don’t do aerobic activities or workouts for 2-3 weeks.
  10. Don’t touch your nose!

Although the above list may seem restrictive, you’ll be delighted with the beautiful results of your Tampa rhinoplasty procedure after a few short weeks of basic cautionary measures like those listed above. And what better way to protect your investment than to ensure you heal as effectively as possible?
