Liposuction Surgery in Clearwater

Bring Back Your Youth with Body Contouring

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure used to remove excess fat deposits from difficult areas where diet and exercise won’t work on their own. The procedure remains the most commonly performed in America, mainly because of its appealing ability to target specific areas and provide a quick fix to problem areas that have seen little improvement through weight loss.

Liposuction can target a number of areas but is most frequently used to reduce and refine the abdomen, thighs, waist, hips, buttocks, neck, chest, and back, either individually or in varying combinations. Patients seek liposuction to improve and enhance their body’s contour and proportionality – helping to better fit into clothes and boost confidence. In many cases, liposuction is also used to treat cellulite and saggy skin.

Although it is one of the most common surgical procedures, finding a surgeon who can achieve beautiful, lasting results with liposuction is difficult. Dr. Egozi has been performing liposuction in Clearwater, Florida for over 15 years and is considered to be one of the best plastic surgeons in the area.

How Does Liposuction Work?

Liposuction is performed using a hollow surgical instrument known as a cannula. The cannula is inserted under the skin and a high-pressure vacuum is applied to break up and remove pockets of fat. Since its inception, liposuction techniques have evolved greatly.

Because traditional liposuction methods did not inject fluid into the target body area before inserting the cannula, loss of blood and significant bruising occurred. It is for this reason that the best liposuction surgeons use modern techniques to minimize swelling and bruising during the recovery period.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Egozi will talk through all the different liposuction techniques and determine the best for your individual needs. This will be based on a variety of factors such as the target body area and the amount of fat being removed.

Types of Liposuction

1) Tumescent Liposuction

With tumescent liposuction, a special fluid is injected prior to the procedure taking place. This improves patient recovery after surgery, lessening swelling and bruising. The tumescent solution is the safest way to remove fat while decreasing bruising and promoting postoperative comfort.

Tumescent liposuction is performed as part of an ultrasonic liposuction, but can also be utilized during a more traditional liposuction that uses cannulas.

2) Ultrasonic Liposuction

For ultrasonic liposuction, ultrasonic waves are used to break up fat deposits and leave behind healthy tissue – improving skin elasticity and body contour. A cannula is then used to withdraw the broken fat deposits.

Ultrasonic liposuction is considered to be a more precise and efficient way of removing fat deposits as it improves skin elasticity and body contour.

3) Radio Frequency and Laser Liposuction

Radio Frequency Assisted Liposuction (RFAL) and Laser liposuction are the latest forms of liposuction. These treatments involve the same process as tumescent liposuction but before the fat is removed, Radio Frequency energy or laser energy is directed to liquefy fat and heat the skin to tighten it more than can be done with ultrasonic liposuction or tumescent liposuction alone.

Liposuction Recovery Timeline

Immediately after your liposuction procedure, you will be transferred to the recovery room where your incisions will be dressed and you will be fitted with a compression garment. After about 30-60 minutes you can expect to be discharged and return home.

The first few days you may have some slight drainage as the tiny incisions are not water tight until 48 hours. Typically, there is minimal discomfort which can be controlled with medications.

Within a few days to 1 week, patients are usually able to return to work (so long as it isn’t physically taxing) and after two weeks, surgical incisions should have healed well enough to allow moderate exercise to be resumed.

More strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be put off until about 3 weeks after the liposuction surgery, when inflammation would have fully subsided. Over the course of six months, the results of the body contouring procedure will become highly visible.

Side Effects of Liposuction

Like any surgical procedure, liposuction may have some mild side effects. Side effects of liposuction include swelling, soreness, and bruising around the targeted area. Bear in mind that these side effects are only temporary and are minimized by the medication, antibiotics and recovery plan your surgeon will assign to you following the procedure.

The best way to minimize risks and side effects is to ensure you use an accredited plastic surgery center with an experienced liposuction surgeon like Dr. Egozi.

Liposuction Cost

Liposuction cost varies depending on many factors. The type of technique used and the target area of treatment are just two of the elements that make up liposuction pricing. For that reason, fees vary from procedure to procedure.

To receive an accurate fee for your desired procedure, schedule a consultation with Dr. Egozi. Financing plans are also available through Care Credit, should you prefer that option.

FAQ

Can Liposuction be performed for Medical Reasons?

Although more commonly used for cosmetic reasons, liposuction can also be used to treat certain medical conditions. Liposuction can:

  • Counteract the effects of abnormal enlargement of male breasts (gynecomastia or pseudogynecomastia).
  • Balance problems with metabolism of fat in the body (lipodystrophy).
  • Removal axillary sweat, stopping excessive sweating in the armpit area (axillary hyperhidrosis).

Can Fat Come Back?

There’s no question that you will be astounded by the initial dramatic results of liposuction, but you are probably wondering what to expect in terms of fat returning. You may have dieted and exercised to remove the pockets of fat, so knowing where you stand with fat returning in the years that follow is an important consideration.

When we reach adulthood, the number of fat cells in our bodies remains stable. So when fat cells are removed during your liposuction procedure, your body will not replace them.

That being said – as you would expect – if you take in more calories than you burn, you will accumulate more fat in the cells that remain. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and diet is key to extending the effects of liposuction and keeping your weight stable.

Should I get a Liposuction or Tummy Tuck?

The tummy tuck is a surgical procedure specifically used to remove excess skin, eliminate stretch marks and tighten muscles around the abdomen. However, some fat around the abdomen can be removed using liposuction for a better result.

The decision for liposuction or tummy tuck is best decided in consultation with Dr. Egozi. Frequently the decision centers on how elastic the skin is in the treated area. The more elastic, the more likely liposuction would be appropriate. The less elastic skin, with overhang, and stretch marks would likely be best served with tummy tuck.

As well as being a standalone procedure, liposuction is commonly used alongside the tummy tuck to get the benefits of each procedure. Breast reductions and facelifts are other procedures frequently paired with liposuction.

Can Liposuction be used for Weight Loss?

It’s a common misconception that liposuction is a solution for weight loss and obesity. This is far from the truth. Some people mistakenly seek liposuction as a weight loss option. Liposuction is best described as a body contouring procedure.

Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity and patients must understand that the procedure is not a substitute for a healthy diet and lifestyle. Liposuction should ideally be performed on patients who are at or within 30 pounds of their ideal body weight.

It is also your opportunity to inform the doctor of any allergies you have and medications you are currently taking. By the end of the session, the doctor will conclude with recommendations and map out a plan of action.
