Breast Augmentation with Lift in Tampa Bay

Why Combine a Breast Augmentation with a Lift?

A breast augmentation is a standard procedure sought by women looking to increase the volume of their breasts. A surgical procedure called a mastopexy, otherwise known as a breast lift, is often used to complete the process. The intention of the breast lift is to alter the shape of the breasts. It does not add volume. While the two procedures can be done separately and independently of one another, they are often performed simultaneously. This breast augmentation and mastopexy dual procedure is often referred to as a breast augmentation with lift. When considering getting this combined procedure, you should ask yourself the following questions:

  • Would I like larger breasts?
  • Would I like higher, firmer breasts?

If the answer to both of these questions is yes, you should consider getting a breast augmentation with lift.

The Breast Lift Procedure

The mastopexy process lifts the breasts by eliminating excess skin and compressing tissue, resulting in firmer breasts with an altered contour. Women usually seek out this procedure as their skin loses elasticity, causing the figure and density of their breasts to change. The primary reasons for the loss of elasticity are pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging, weight fluxes, gravity, and genetics.

Mastopexy does not increase size, which is why patients who are seeking breast lifts often need to undergo augmentation if they wish to achieve their desired results. Depending on how much skin and tissue is tightened and removed, a lift on its own could cause a decrease in bra size. In such cases, breast augmentation is recommended.

The Breast Augmentation Procedure

An implant is inserted into the chest when a lift and augmentation are concurrently performed. Simultaneously performing these procedures will either maintain or increase breast volume, thus preserving or increasing cup size depending on the needs of the patient.

Not all patients will require an implant to be combined with a mastopexy because their bra size will not change via a lift. However, the results vary from patient to patient.

What is the Recovery Process Like?

Is It Painful?

Patients usually experience some discomfort and swelling during the first days of recovery. However, there is rarely any significant pain. Patients useful report feeling breast stiffness and tightness for the first few weeks after surgery and even some minor bruising, but this is not anything to worry about. The discomfort is often described as a soreness after a workout. However, if you experience any severe discomfort or bruising during recovery, you should contact us right away.

How Long Does Recovery Last?

Several factors can influence how long recovery takes after a breast augmentation and mastopexy procedure. The size of the implant is a major component. Larger implants will cause more stretching of the skin and muscle, which can lead to a greater feeling of tightness. The type of job you have also plays a role in how long it takes to return to work. If your job is more physical and requires lifting, we recommend waiting until you are fully healed from your surgery before returning to work. Generally, heavy physical activity can be restarted around 3 weeks after surgery on most all cases.

Will There Be Any Scarring?

As with any surgery, there may be a fine white line scar at the point of incision. The incision can be made in multiple areas, and we will make a recommendation to you on the best location for your body type, implant size, and overall procedure goals. We do our best to minimize scarring, which is usually not even visible with low neckline tops or bikinis. Most patients find that their satisfaction with the procedure results far outweighs any concern over scarring.

Will My Insurance Cover the Procedure?

Generally, when a breast augmentation and/or mastopexy procedure is done for cosmetic purposes, it will not be covered by insurance. However, it is sometimes covered if the patient is having breast reconstruction done after having a mastectomy. It is always worth checking with your insurance provider. You can feel free to reach out to us with any questions about cost or financing options.
