Chemical Peel in Clearwater

What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels is a cosmetic procedure designed to improve the skin’s appearance. This procedure uses exfoliating agents to reveal vibrant, younger-looking skin and to eliminate common skin imperfections.

The Egozi Plastic Surgery Center offers many different chemical peels, all of which differ in depth, ingredients, and results. There are various depths of chemical peels, including medium, deep, and superficial. Each chemical peel uses a different blend of acids and nutrients to help with common skin concerns, including acne, sunspots, skin discoloration, or premature signs of aging.

During the procedure, an aesthetician or a plastic surgeon will apply a chemical solution directly to the face. The chemical solution helps exfoliate the top layers of the skin. After being applied, the top layers of skin will slowly peel and flake off, revealing vibrant, smoother skin in as quick as two to three weeks.

What are the Different Types of Chemical Peels

There are three different types of chemical peels offered at The Egozi Plastic Surgery Center. Each cosmetic procedure has a different depth and intensity. During your consultation, we recommend discussing your skin concerns and skin sensitivities with your doctor so they can find the best treatment plan for your skin.

Here’s how the three chemical peels differ:

Superficial Peels

Superficial peels involve minimal visible exfoliation and typically use Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) derived from glycolic acid or lactic acid. These peels can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and skin discoloration. The healing process is typically around one to seven days.

Medium Peels

Medium peels are typically made with trichloroacetic acid. This acid penetrates deeper into the skin and can treat advanced skin issues and imperfections. Medium peels are ideal for sun damage, acne scars, and deep wrinkles. The healing process is typically around seven to 14 days.

Deep Peels

Deep peels are made using phenol solutions. Phenol solutions are the strongest acids that can be used for facial rejuvenation. Many individuals will experience at least 3-5 days of intense peeling after treatment. These peels can help eliminate common skin imperfections and provide long-lasting results. The healing process is around two weeks.

Benefits of Chemical Peels

There are many benefits to choosing facial peels for facial rejuvenation. Whether you’re struggling with sun spots, acne scars, or simply want to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and mouth.

During your consultation with one of our Board Certified Plastic surgeons in Clearwater, Florida, our team will discuss your unique skin insecurities and how you can use chemical peels to target various skin issues. They’ll develop a custom treatment plan that aligns with your needs, and discuss some of the many benefits of facial peels.

Diminish Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Struggling with fine lines or deep wrinkles? A medium or deep peel can help smooth the skin and eliminate pesky fine lines around the mouth and eyes.

Improve Skin Texture and Tone

Facial peels can help you achieve a more vibrant and clear skin tone and texture. The powerful exfoliating process helps eliminate the top layers of skin to reveal a more youthful appearance. Chemical peels can also help correct sun damage, address hyperpigmentation, and help you achieve a more balanced complexion.

Reduce the Appearance of Acne Scars

Facial peels can help lessen the appearance of atrophic or indented acne scars. This cosmetic procedure helps remove the top layers of skin, revealing noticeable smoother skin after just three to five days.

Improve Skincare Product Efficacy

Chemical peels help exfoliate the top layers of skin and stimulate the growth of fresh, new skin. After treatment, this can help maximize the efficacy of your skin products, allowing them to penetrate deeper into the skin.

How to Prepare for a Chemical Peel

After your initial consultation with Dr. Egozi, we’ll provide you with a few preparatory steps you must adhere to before treatment. It’s best to discuss any oral medications, sensitivities, skincare products, or acne treatments you’re taking with your doctor before your facial peel.

Other steps you’ll need to take before treatment include:

  • Avoid using retinoids 48 hours before treatment
  • Wear SPF 25 or higher every day and avoid direct sunlight
  • Avoid Accutane for six months before the peel
  • Avoid using exfoliants and facial scrubs
  • Avoid waxing, hair bleaching, or depilatory hair removal products

For medium or deep chemical peels, your doctor may recommend a friend or a family member drive you to and from the facility. Some deeps require IV sedation and can be more intense than others.

If you have a history of fever blisters, a doctor may recommend you take an antiviral medication before treatment. Discuss your scarring and skin history to ensure you have the best experience possible for your skin type. When you arrive for treatment, you’ll want to avoid wearing makeup and only use a gentle cleanser in the morning.

The Cost of Chemical Peel

The cost of chemical peels in Clearwater, Florida, will vary depending on the type of peel and the depth. The cost may also vary depending on which plastic surgeon or aesthetician you decide to go to for treatment.

The average cost of skin resurfacing procedures like chemical peels is $1,489, according to the latest statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. This cost may be more if you need to be placed under IV sedation or have local anesthesia for a deep chemical peel.

Recovery Time

The beauty of chemical peels is that they require minimal downtime. Most individuals can return to their daily lives just 24 hours after treatment. It’s important to note that you may experience flaking or peeling for three to five days after treatment, depending on the depth of the facial peel.

Redness, swelling, and a tingling sensation are common symptoms you may experience after a chemical peel. Immediately after treatment, you’ll notice the treated area will start to form a crust, leading to brown blotches of flaky skin. This is normal and may persist for seven to 14 days after treatment. You’ll want to avoid pulling and tugging at the treated skin or flaky parts of your skin and let it peel off naturally. This may cause an infection or unwanted bleeding and irritation.

Patients must avoid wearing makeup or sitting in direct sunlight for at least one to two weeks. If you’re leaving the house, make sure to wear sunscreen with an SPF of 25 or higher. It’s important to also stay hydrated and apply a thick, nutrient-rich moisturizer at least twice a day. Make sure to get your moisturizer approved by your aesthetician.

Your doctor will provide aftercare steps. In some instances, they may ask you to walk through your skincare routine to make sure that the products you’re using won’t disrupt your skin’s integrity during the healing process. You’ll want to avoid exfoliants completely and also use a gentle cleanser everyday to keep the treated skin clean.

After around two to three weeks, you’ll start to see the results of the chemical peel. You may still notice some light redness near the treated area. As with any cosmetic procedure, there are risks like allergic reactions, irritation, inflammation, and tissue injury. If you’re in any pain or discomfort, schedule a consultation with a doctor. If you’re doing another round of treatment, you can continue for around four to six weeks.
