Wrinkle Treatments in Tampa Bay, FL
What are Wrinkles?
Wrinkles are an unwanted yet unavoidable sign of aging. The lines, folds, and creases that develop on the skin as we age are entirely harmless – and can add character to the face – but are certainly an area of concern that most want to keep in check.
Wrinkles can generally be divided into fine lines and deep wrinkles. Fine lines typically result from sun damage, dehydration, and muscle movement, while deep wrinkles result from more excessive collagen breakdown.
We all remember the unsettling feeling that showers over us when we first notice wrinkles developing on our faces. More often than not, wrinkles are first visible around the eyes, mouth, and neck – due to a combination of high sun exposure and years of repeated facial expressions. And as the years go by, the problem inevitably develops into brow lines and drooping jowls before wrinkles are seen on other areas of the body, such as the chest and hands.
There is little that can be done to prevent wrinkles from forming entirely. Still, Egozi Plastic Surgery Center offers various cosmetic and surgical treatments that restore your smooth, youthful appearance. There are many types of wrinkle treatments available using different techniques and devices. Currently, you can opt for the following:
- Forehead wrinkle treatment.
- Under Eye wrinkle treatment.
- Neck wrinkle treatment.
- Face wrinkle treatment.
- Hand wrinkle treatment.
- Chest wrinkle treatment.
- Eye wrinkle treatment.
What Causes Wrinkles?
While wrinkles may be undesirable, they are also entirely unavoidable and are a counterpart of the aging process. Several factors cause the folds and creases that appear on the skin, but, in general, a loss of collagen and elastin is the biggest culprit, as this results in skin that seems slack and lacking in the fullness it may have during youth. Several factors may cause wrinkles, including:
1) Aging
Aging is the leading cause of wrinkles. As we age, our bodies naturally produce less collagen and elastin. These two proteins influence skin’s pliability and fullness, so without them, skin loses its fullness and ability to stretch and “bounce back.” The result is the production of creases and wrinkles.
2) Smoking
Smoking impacts your body’s ability to produce collagen, which can expedite the production of wrinkles. Because smoking ages your skin prematurely, the best way to avoid this is to quit smoking.
3) Sun Damage
It’s essential to protect your skin from the sun due to its cancer-causing properties and because the sun’s powerful UV rays increase the production of free radicals, which interfere with the body’s elastin production.
4) Facial Muscle Contractions
Repeated facial expressions, such as furrowing the brow, can permanently impact the skin’s appearance, sometimes causing wrinkles.
Common Treatments for Wrinkles
Because wrinkles can significantly affect appearance, resulting in a more tired and less youthful look, several treatments are available for them. These include both surgical and non-surgical options.
Non-Surgical Treatment Options
If you are concerned about recovery time from surgical procedures, some non-surgical options exist to treat your wrinkles.
1) Soft-Tissue Fillers
Fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane can be used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. These fillers are temporary and may result in some bruising and swelling.
2) Injections
Injections like Botox can prevent facial muscles from contracting, making the skin appear smoother and less wrinkled. Like fillers, the effects of Botox are temporary.
3) Chemical Peels
Chemical peels remove the topmost layers of skin, and when the skin grows back, it is smoother and less wrinkled. You may require several treatments before you see noticeable results.
4) Dermabrasion / Microdermabrasion
Similar to chemical peels, dermabrasion or microdermabrasion is a procedure that removes the top layers of skin, stimulating the growth of new skin that is smoother. Several treatments may be needed.
5) Ultrasound Therapy
Ultrasound therapy, also known as ultherapy, stimulates the growth of collagen below the skin, which may result in a fuller, less wrinkled appearance.
6) Light Therapy
Red and infrared light therapy can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and improve the skin’s overall tone and appearance. Multiple ongoing treatments are likely needed.
Surgical Treatment Options:
Surgical treatments for wrinkles are more invasive than non-surgical options but are likely to have more long-term impacts. Some surgical options include:
1) Facelifts
A facelift can eliminate moderate to deep wrinkles, resulting in a noticeably different appearance. During a facelift, a surgeon makes incisions near the hairline, continuing behind the ear. The surgeon can then tighten the tissues below your skin. Your skin will be pulled up and back; in some cases, excess skin may be removed before the incisions are sealed with sutures or stitches. Some bruising and swelling are likely after the procedure.
2) Brow Lifts
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift. Incisions are made along your hairline, and your skin is pulled up and back. This procedure is best for those whose wrinkles appear only on the forehead or along the brow. There are three types of brow lift: the hairline brow lift, coronal brow lift, and an endoscopic brow lift.
How Much Will Wrinkles Treatments Cost?
The cost of your wrinkle treatment will depend on the type of procedure you choose and the severity of your wrinkles (which will influence whether multiple treatments are needed). Surgical procedures such as facelifts can range between $8,500 and $14,000, whereas non-surgical procedures such as Botox can cost $10 to $15 per unit. Wrinkle Treatment Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What Should I Avoid Doing After Treatment?
You should take several steps to ensure a complication-free recovery from your treatment, but these steps will depend on what type of treatment you choose. Generally, facial treatments, whether non-surgical or surgical, will require you to stay out of the sun immediately following your procedure and to avoid any strenuous exercise for a time.
In addition, you should speak with Dr. Egozi about how to best wash your face or clean any incisions and when it will be possible to resume your skincare regimen. It is best to avoid smoking and drinking alcohol following your procedure. You should ensure you are resting, drinking plenty of water, and eating nutritious foods low in salt and sugar, which can cause inflammation.
What Is the Best Treatment for Wrinkles Without Surgery?
While all non-surgical wrinkle treatment options offer results, the best option will depend on your unique needs and desired outcomes. Dr. Egozi will work with you to determine which non-surgical wrinkle treatment is best for you.
Do and Don’ts After Face Botox?
If you choose Botox, there are some steps to take after your procedure. You should try to frown and furrow your brow to help increase uptake. In addition, you should remain upright for the first four hours and use a dabbing motion when applying creams or makeup. You should not rub or massage the treated area, sleep on your face, exercise for approximately 12 hours, drink alcohol in the first 24 hours after your treatment, or expose your face to sunlight for the first 24 hours.
Do Creams Really Help Wrinkles?
While it is essential to moisturize your skin to help maintain its overall health, over-the-counter wrinkle creams do little or nothing to treat wrinkles once they occur.
